In the early 2000s, President Thabo Mbeki appointed Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality as a nodal zone for development in SA. By this he meant that the area had economic potential that needed investment intervention to make it work. A decade later, Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality is now a special economic zone (SEZ). Yet again, this means that it is prime for major investment and economic activity. Bafokeng Royal Coffins and Caskets (RBC) is a small and young coffin-making business that aims to take advantage of this SEZ status of the municipality. As a company established by locals, RBC aims to ensure that its investment and economic activity is centred here. RBC is in the process of acquiring a workshop space in Phuthaditjhaba’s Industrial Park to plant its industrial feet in the SEZ.
Teboho Mofokeng is the executive of RBC in Phuthaditjhaba. He can be contacted on 081 531 5423
